The 2019 Hyundai Ioniq launching to Australia’s press in Brisbane on November 28 and 29 brings customers a green-vehicle first – the choice of pure electric, a plug-in hybrid and a petrol/electric hybrid.
The pure electric costs $44,990 (elite) and $48,990 (premium). The PHEV is $40,990 (elite) and $45,490 (premium), while the hybrid is $33,990 (elite) and $38,990 (premium).
In announcing the manufacturer’s list pricing (which excludes dealer delivery and on-road costs), plus full specs, Hyundai says Its flagship electric model delivers a real-world battery range of 230km with ultra-fast 100kW DC charging capability of 80% capacity in about 23 minutes.
The plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) allows 63km pure EV-only trips with the convenience of a range-extending petrol engine offering easy overnight charging.
The hybrid brings a taste of EV driving, with a petrol/electric powertrain, a familiar driving experience and exceptional 3.4L/100km economy.
All three 2019 Ioniq drivetrains are refined, responsive and deliver both a user-friendly and engaging drive and superb fuel/energy efficiency, Hyundai says.
Each is available in elite and premium trim levels, and has safety, convenience and driver appeal familiar from Hyundai’s conventional-engine line-up.
Advanced safety features are included in all.
“The new Hyundai Ioniq marks the opening of an exciting new chapter for our company,” Hyundai Motor Company Australia chief executive officer JW Lee says.
“The 2019 Ioniq makes responsive and eco-friendly electrified driving accessible to a wide range of customers, in an attractive and user-friendly compact package featuring comprehensive standard safety and locally tuned comfort and chassis dynamics, with the peace of mind of our five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty and lifetime service plan.”
The pure electric has an 88kW, 295Nm synchronous motor and high-voltage 28kWh lithium-ion polymer battery.
The plug-in has an 8.9kWh battery with a 44.5kW, 170Nm synchronous motor and a range-extending, performance-enhancing Atkinson cycle petrol engine/dual-clutch automatic combination giving 1.1L/100km fuel economy.
The hybrid offers an accessible entry to electrified driving, with a petrol/electric powertrain that teams a 1.56kWh battery and 32kW, 170Nm synchronous motor with the Atkinson engine combination providing a conventional driving experience.
