Mini Cooper SE hatch EV for Australia mid-2020

Mini Australia will introduce the all-electric Mini Cooper SE hatch to Australia mid next year.

“The Mini Cooper SE hatch marks a new era for our brand in providing our customers with a progressive mobility solution wrapped in a package that is unmistakably Mini in its look, feel and the way it drives,” Mini Australia general manager Brett Waudby says.

The announcement follows the hatch’s debut at the IAA 2019 motor show in Frankfurt.

“We look forward to introducing this exciting and game-changing member of the Mini family to the Australian market next year,” Waudby says.

It’s 135kW electric motor races from 0-100km/h in 7.3 seconds and has a driving range of 235km to 270km.

The amount of space for occupants and luggage in the SE hatch is the same as the combustion engine powered hatch.

The SE hatch will be built at Mini Plant Oxford in the UK, the birthplace of Mini. This year marks the British carmaker’s 60th anniversary, with production reaching 10 million since 1959.

Mini Cooper SE hatch pricing and other details will be announced by Mini Australia closer to the launch.
