Europe’s clearer skies under COVID-19 restrictions enable solar panels to operate at maximum power.
In Germany, for instance, record electricity has been produced by solar, helping those with or considering EVs who want to use green energy.
Solar plants produced 32,227MW on April 20, well ahead of the old record set on March 23.
Clear conditions helped solar provide as much as about 40% of Germany’s power on April 20, compared to 22% produced by coal and nuclear plants, Agora Energiewende says.
Solar and other renewables accounted for 78% of Germany’s electricity output.
Its government predicts green power will comprise about 80% of the electricity mix by 2038, double that in 2019.
