Selecting your EV

‘So you’re thinking of buying an electric car?’ is the title of a May 18 webinar being run by the Renew Adelaide branch.

Catering for up to 500 people, the webinar features talks by David Cann and Bryce Gaton.

Cann is a member of the Adelaide Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) and a founder of the Nissan Leaf Owners Australia and the Hyundai Ioniq and Kona Enthusiasts Facebook groups.

Gaton is AEVA’s newsletter editor and a writer for RenewEconomy and The Driven, specialising in EVs. He is also a regular contributor to Renew magazine.

Cann has owned three EVs and will describe his experiences which began with a second-hand Nissan Leaf. He’s made some long trips in them, including Darwin to Adelaide to Sydney to Cradle Mountain, and will explain why range anxiety has never been a concern for him.

A Leaf he bought in 2015 as a spare car and shopping runabout became the only car he and his wife used for the next four years.

His story has convinced others to go all electric and he will touch on the subjects of selecting a car to match lifestyle, ownership, servicing (or lack of it), long distance travel and why EV owners probably don’t need a fast charger at home.

Gaton will give an overview of useful terminology and EV technology and cover what’s currently available in the EV market and planned.

The webinar is at 7.30pm ACST (Adelaide time) and people will be able to ‘check in’ from 7.20pm.

The necessary web link for the webinar can be obtained from the ticketing system.

Renew is a national, not-for-profit organisation that inspires, enables and advocates for people to live sustainably in their homes and communities.
