Amazon will buy 100,000 electric delivery vans from EV start-up Rivian, deploying them between 2021 and 2024.
This came from Amazon chief executive officer Jeff Bezos during an announcement in Washington DC about Amazon’s plans to address climate change.
Early this year Amazon led a US$700 million investment in Rivian and the two were planning cooperative ventures.
Rivian intends making electric Rivian R1T utes and Rivian R1S SUVs next year and hopes to have 10,000 EVs on the road by late 2022.
The vans are expected to be built in a former Mitsubishi plant in Illinois.
