An Australian electric vehicle sharing platform is among 10 cleantech start-up companies selected for the finals of the first California Climate Cup.
Evee in Sydney allows the offset of costs associated with owning an EV by offering it up for rent.
The competition aims to accelerate reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and enhance resiliency in the face of climate change.
The cup finalists, announced by the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) and California Clean Energy Fund, were selected from among more than 100 applicants.
The 10 are selected in three categories — Zero Emissions mobility and Goods Movement, Energy/ Transportation Nexus, and Digital Solutions for Sustainable Cities.
They will put their case in Los Angeles on September 10 before a panel of judges from the energy, transportation, and sustainable cities sectors. The judges include representatives from Itron Idea Labs, Edison International, BMW iVentures, and more.
The prize includes US$25,000 and a chance to present to the Governor’s Global Climate Action Summit from September 11-14 in San Francisco.
“The time to act on climate is now and these start-ups are leading the way to a smarter, more resilient, and cleaner future,” Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator president and chief executive officer Matt Petersen says.
