DAF is adding to its range of zero emission models with a new 19 tonne fully electric distribution truck for urban applications.
The LF Electric has a range of up to 280 kilometres and follows hot on the heels of the company’s first series CF Electric 4×2 tractor unit developed for up to 40 tonne distribution.
DAF also expanded the EV range with the recent release of a 6×2 CF Electric rigid with steered rear axle (GVW up to 29 tonnes design) designed for applications such waste collection.
The CF Electric trucks have already clocked up several hundreds of thousands of kilometres with high profile customers, the company says.
The LF Electric provides 250 kW of power (370 kW peak) and 1200 Nm of torque (3700 Nm peak).
DAF says it uses latest generation lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries on all fully electric vehicles containing no cobalt or magnesium and come with a six-year warranty.
The LF Electric features a ‘combined charging system’ which allows the truck to be charged through the regular electricity network.
Through slow-charging (400V AC, 22 kW, 3 phase), the battery pack can be charged from 20% to 80% in 6.5 hours. A full charge (0% to 100%) takes up to 12 hours. If dedicated equipment is available, fast charging the batteries (650V DC, 150 kW) will take 60 minutes from 20% to 80% or two hours for a full charge.
As an option, the truck is available with a 400V e-PTO for powering auxiliary equipment such as an electric cooling installation or an electro-hydraulic crane. This eliminates the need of a separate generator and will result in a full ‘zero emission’ distribution truck.
