Hyundai Ioniq pricing ‘confirmed’ below LCT

Leaked pricing for the Hyundai Ioniq hybrid and electric vehicle range indicates consumers will likely be safe from the Luxury Car Tax threshold.

A post on the Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) Facebook page from an unknown dealer reveals the Hyundai Ioniq will be less than $50,000 before on-road costs.

Starting with the Hybrid Elite at between $32,000-$33,000, the Plug-In Elite with 63km NEDC range of dedicated all-electric propulsion will be about $40,000-$41,000 and is topped by the full-time Ioniq Electric Elite at $44,000-$45,000.

NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) range for the all-electric Ioniq is quoted at 280km of real-world estimated range.

The post, which appears to have since been deleted from the AEVA Facebook page and has been published, shows the base model Ioniq Hybrid Elite will come with seven airbags, Hyundai’s ‘SmartSense’ suite of collision avoidance features like autonomous emergency braking and lane keeping, LED head lights and tail lights, cloth seats, 15-inch alloys, eight-inch infotainment screen connected to reversing camera, sensors and premium sound, and dual-zone climate.

The NZ$60,000 Ioniq Electric has been on sale in New Zealand since 2017.

The Luxury Car Tax threshold for electric vehicles, and other “fuel-efficient vehicles” is currently $75,526 for 2018-19.
