Musk reckons Australia could easily meet EV sales target

Australia could easily meet Labor’s goal of 50% of all new car sales being electric by 2030 says Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk.

“Norway has already proven it could be done last month (March). No question Australia could do this in far fewer than 11 years,” he tweeted.

Musk was replying to a tweet from software firm Atlassian co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes who was sure Musk wouldn’t see the target as “ambitious” in replying to another tweet wondering what Musk would think of Australia’s EV debate.

This follows the Coalition Government deciding to release an EV strategy as part of its climate solutions package in mid-2020 after the May 18, 2019, federal election.

Labor and The Greens have both announced EV policy, Labor including the 50% target while The Greens want all new vehicle sales to be electric by 2030.
