New parts storage for Toyota Australia

Toyota Australia has opened a new parts storage facility in Western Sydney.

Over 128,000 parts will be sorted and filed in the 50,000 square-metre warehouse space, with at least 27,000 items arriving every day.

As the number one brand for market share in Australia, Toyota Australia has spent nearly 12 months constructing the Toyota Parts Centre NSW on a 6.4-hectare block at Kemps Creek, a few minutes from the M7 motorway.

Toyota Australia President and CEO, Matthew Callachor

The new space ensures workers do not need to perform their duties at heights and will utilise “a fleet of autonomous intelligent vehicles (AIV) to reduce manual carrying of parts”, the company says.

The site has 2200 solar panels installed on the warehouse roof, which have generated 556,000 kWh or enough energy to power 125 four-person households.

The renewable energy generated has kept over 477 tonnes of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere, according to Toyota Australia.

Rainwater tanks for irrigation and toilets have been installed, in addition to energy efficient LED sensor lights, and the fact the whole building is positioned to ensure maximum natural cooling to effectively reduce air-conditioning costs.

The Toyota Parts Centre has been opened by member of the New South Wales legislative council, Shayne Mallard, councillor Ross Fowler OAM, Penrith mayor John Thain and senior executives from Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan and Toyota Australia.

Toyota Australia president Matthew Callachor says TPC was designed to be “the best global Toyota warehouse in safety, efficiency and sustainability.”

“Embracing green building solutions, cutting CO2 emissions and utilising alternative fuel sources go hand-in-hand with our production plans for new vehicles,” he says.

“We are already the leader in fuel-saving hybrid technology and we plan to introduce at least five new hybrid vehicles to our range by mid-2020, including the next generation RAV4 next year,” Callachor reveals.
