Powering up Thailand’s EV ambitions

Thailand’s second-largest electricity generating company Energy Absolute is also building EVs, batteries and charging stations.

The renewable energy firm’s founder and chief executive officer Somphote Ahunai expects to use Government incentives to get 5000 EVs on the road by 2020, supported by more than 700 charging stations and a planned US$3 billion factory for lithium-ion batteries.

The company revealed its Mine Mobility passenger EV at the Bangkok International Motor Show on March 25 to April 7 and had more than 4500 orders for the vehicle priced at about NZ$58,000.
