Good news for electric owners in South East Queensland, as power bills have had the biggest fall of all Australian capital cities.
Energy minister Anthony Lynham says electricity prices in South East Queensland plummeted by 5.1% for the June quarter.
These statistics were released August 1, according to new Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for June 2019 by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
“This is an excellent result that demonstrates the Palaszczuk Government’s affordable energy plan is working to drive down power bills,” Lynham says.
“According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), Brisbane and South East Queensland enjoyed the biggest fall in power prices of any Australian capital city.”
Lynham says South East Queensland’s 5.1% fall in power bills compared with a reduction of 1.5% in Adelaide, 1.8% in Melbourne and 1.3% in Sydney.
This drop is good news for electric vehicle owners, who can save on electricity.
“Switched-on South East Queensland householders can save up to $417 a year on their power bills by shopping around.”
Lynham says Queensland has the lowest average wholesale power prices of mainland states.
A $19 million Queensland Hydrogen Industry Strategy 2019-2024 has been released by the Queensland government, EVtalk reported in May.
