A new electric vehicle fast charging station will boost tourism and make it quicker and easier for EV drivers to explore Victoria’s Surf Coast.
This from Victoria’s energy, environment and climate change minister Lily D’Ambrosio in opening the Chargefox ultra-rapid charging station at the RACV’s Torquay resort.
Powered by 100% renewable energy, the charging station can fully charge an EV in under 15 minutes with a range of about 400km – the fastest of any charger in Australia, she says.

The Torquay site includes two ultra-rapid (350kW) and two fast (50kW) chargers that can charge four EVs at the same time.
The Andrews Labor Government put $3 million towards supporting seven EV charging stations across Victoria.
The Torquay site joins already opened stations at Airport West, Euroa and Barnawartha North, with three more expected to open in regional Victoria by the end of 2019.

Despite the growing EV market globally, EV sales in Australia are significantly lower with 2216 electric cars sold here last year out of 1.1 million vehicle sales worldwide, D’Ambrosio says.
“More Victorians will be driving electric vehicles in the future, that’s why we’re building the infrastructure to be ready to meet this demand,” she says.
“More of these charging stations will boost tourism, reduce carbon emissions and help us build a cleaner, more sustainable future.”
Chargefox chief executive officer Marty Andrews says the world leading EV charging technology now available in Torquay will encourage EV uptake and ensure people enjoy the Great Ocean Road, one of the world’s most scenic drives, using renewable energy.
