Caterpillar is testing an all-electric 26-ton excavator with global trading and service organisation Pon Equipment.
Pon converted the machine, named the Z-Line for zero-emission, based on a Caterpillar 323F.
Building and testing is taking place in Norway.
The original one-tonne diesel engine was replaced with a 300-kilowatt-hour battery pack weighing 3.4-tonnes, Norwegian publication Tek reports.
The battery provides enough power for five to seven hours of operation, while a full charge takes one to two hours.
