Porsche Taycan production global release

The final production version of the Porsche Taycan EV has been revealed in a global premiere.

The first all-electric from the German car maker comes in the four-door base model Turbo and tuned up Turbo S.

Deliveries are due to begin by the end of 2019, the price tag starting around US$150,000.

Previously known as the Mission E, the Taycan has a 93.4kWh battery which fires the Turbo S from 0-60mph (96.5km/h) in about 2.6 seconds, the Turbo doing it in three seconds.

The Taycan is the first in Porsche’s E-Performance line-up with the Taycan Cross Turismo due by the end of 2020 and a Macan SUV electric also expected.

Range is estimated at 450km for the Turbo and 412km for the Turbo S.

The Taycan is able to be charged from 5% to 80% in just over 20 minutes and topped up in about five minutes.

Porsche held its unveiling simultaneously in three countries representing various forms of renewable energy – Berlin (solar) in Germany, Pingtan Island (wind) in China and Niagara Falls (hydroelectric), Canada.

The Taycan has a new all-wheel-drive system having control within each of the dual motors, said to give it more agility, and it sports a two-speed gearbox and high regenerative braking.

An eight-year battery warranty is offered but reports suggest Porsche doesn’t yet have an end-of-life plan for the Taycan’s batteries, something the company says it’s working on.
