Video: New business unit targets e-mobility

Brisbane based company e-Motion Concepts Pty (eMC) has established a new business unit targeting the personal transport market for mobility in urban environments.

It’s called EMoS Australia and it expects to have four new EVs available by or in February 2020.

“We are very excited to have identified an exciting and innovative portfolio of electric personal transport vehicles, ranging from a sophisticated three-wheeled escooter and two electric three-wheeled moped scooters to a more conventional, competitively priced electric delivery scooter,” chief executive officer Harry Proskefalas says.

The iLark

The CT-Kargo and CT-Kube smart EVs for urban environments were introduced by eMC earlier this year.

Company founder and chief technology officer Wolfgang Roffmann says; “In our search and development of urban transport solutions for people and goods, we have come across a number of innovative and exciting electric personal transport vehicle options and we felt that there is a demand in getting around the urban environment in an efficient and effective way, whilst not compromising on safety at an affordable cost.”

The first product available from EMoS will a personal mobility device (PMD), a three-wheeled e-scooter named iLark, with seating and pioneering steering.

The iLark is fully compliant with requirements under the federal requirements and Queensland legislation to be used legally in that state, similarly to Lime and Neutron scooters.

Other states are reviewing their legislation around the use of PMDs.

The other three vehicles are all classified as mopeds in the federal vehicles category LA and can be driven in Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory with a normal car licence.

In New South Wales and Victoria a provisional motorcycle licence is the minimum requirement.

Two of the vehicles share the same innovative steering mechanism with the iLark e-scooter, giving more stability and improved confidence for riders.

The two models, the iTango and iTank are basically extensions of the iLark e-scooter, with higher speed and extended range.

“Our emphasis for these vehicles has been to give urban commuters more, more safety, more agility and more fun,” Roffmann says.

The fourth model is a conventionally styled electric moped type scooter designed for the urban delivery market called P2000. Pricing will start at A$3900 and it will be distributed by eMC as part of the commercial EV portfolio.

All EMoS EVs, including the P2000, have swappable batteries, giving increased availability and reduced charging time-out with additional batteries.

“We believe that battery swap is a must for small urban transport vehicles,” Roffman says.

“It makes sense, since the batteries are reasonable small and light can be handled easily.”

Roffman says for commercial applications battery swapping allows the vehicles to be available without substantial down time.

The two smaller EVs, the iLark PMD scooter and the iTango moped are suited for possible sharing, rental applications in tourist, campus or apartment complexes or as personal mobility vehicles for corporate fleets in urban environments.

EMoS is seeking expressions of interest from stockists and dealers as retailers, rental and hire businesses and corporates interested in fleet supplies.

The iLark e-scooter is available now for pre order for delivery before Christmas.

The iTango, iTank and the P2000 delivery scooter are available for pre-order for delivery in February 2020.
